At Juby Interior Design by Kirstie, every project tells a story – and we’re so excited to share the beginning of this beautiful transformation. This post marks Phase One of a larger renovation journey, set in the top floor of a charming countryside farmhouse. A space full of potential, character, and light – but in need of a new purpose to better suit a growing, busy family.
Creating Purposeful Spaces in a Large Room
This top floor was originally a single, large open-plan room. While spacious and full of charm, it lacked the functional zoning needed for day-to-day family life. So, our mission was clear: transform this generously sized, underutilized space into practical, stylish rooms that enhance the home’s comfort and usability.
With smart planning and thoughtful design, we divided the space into three key zones:
A beautiful new bathroom
A bespoke walk-in wardrobe
A clever loft storage area tucked above the new rooms
This phase not only brought clarity and structure to the space but also added real value to the home — both in function and design.
From Tired Shower Room to Stunning Bathroom
One of the standout features of this transformation is the bathroom renovation. The original shower room was tired and outdated, not quite fitting for a family who values comfort, style, and practicality.
We started by building the framework for the new bathroom area, setting out clear boundaries and maximising the available footprint. With expert planning and skilled craftsmanship, we brought to life a beautifully finished bathroom featuring a luxurious walk-in shower – a timeless, functional design that will serve the family for years to come.
From tiling to lighting, every detail was chosen with care to reflect a balance of style and practicality. This is now a space that feels fresh, calm, and elegant — a far cry from the dated room it once was.
Bespoke Walk-In Wardrobe: A Dream Come True
At the far end of the room, we carved out space for a bespoke walk-in wardrobe. Designed for maximum functionality and ease of use, it’s a dream storage solution for a busy family.
We know how crucial smart storage is in a home like this, so we used every inch wisely. The new walk-in wardrobe keeps clutter at bay while giving the homeowners a beautiful, well-organised space to start and end their day. It also complements the overall design aesthetic, tying in seamlessly with the new bathroom for a cohesive feel.
Above and Beyond: Creating Loft Storage
One of the cleverest elements of this renovation was adding a loft storage space above the new bathroom and wardrobe areas. Previously, this part of the house had no ceiling, which made the room difficult to heat and maintain.
By adding a ceiling and constructing the loft above, we not only improved insulation and energy efficiency but also created an invaluable storage area – ideal for seasonal items, keepsakes, and anything that needs to be tucked neatly away. It’s a simple yet powerful design decision that enhances both comfort and usability.
Celebrating Craftsmanship: Doors, Architrave & Flooring
Throughout the new rooms, we paid special attention to the carpentry and finish details. From the expertly fitted doors to the crisp architrave, the craftsmanship truly shines. The new walls were built with precision, and the doors were carefully hung to frame the spaces beautifully.
We also preserved the original farmhouse flooring, which added warmth and authenticity to the new interiors. After a professional sanding and re-varnishing, the old floorboards were revived and now gleam with character. It’s always a joy to retain original features while blending them with contemporary design.
Interior Design Meets Practical Family Living
This project is a perfect example of how thoughtful interior design can enhance everyday living. It’s about more than just making a room look nice – it’s about making it work harder, feel warmer, and support the lifestyle of the people who live there.
From a chilly, open space with minimal function, we’ve created a series of rooms that:
